The short way

Sand goes in one end. Power comes out the other.

Most panel brands are a logo on somebody else's product. Ours is a hall with a furnace at one end and a loading dock at the other, and a quarry eleven kilometres up the road. That is not a slogan about quality — it is what makes a twenty-five year warranty cheap enough to actually give.

Inside the hall

Four machines, one takt

The furnace sets the pace and everything else follows it. Nothing waits in a yard between steps, because there is no yard between steps — the sand that goes under the canopy in the morning leaves as a finished module the same week.

    Three formats

    Same cell, three frames

Every module leaves the same laminator. What changes is the frame: a tile for roofs full of dormers, the standard for houses, a long one for barns and carports.

How long until it pays for itself

Three sliders. The figures assume 1 150 kWh a year per kilowatt installed — southern Europe, a roof facing anywhere but north.

SILEX is a fictional company. The plant, the quarry, the modules and the prices were invented for a portfolio case; the film, the page and every number on it were built from scratch for it.
